Sing in the Easter Time Travel Choir!

One of the things I miss most about not worshiping in the same place is the sound of the congregation singing. We want to try something for Easter…what if we could each record our voices separately, and later, put them all together?

I’ll walk you through how to do it in the video above. It’s going to take a couple steps…you might have to watch it a couple times. You are also going to need two devices…a smartphone and computer, a tablet and a smartphone, two smartphones, etc.

The first thing you need is the music to sing along too. You’ve got two options: you can click on this link to print the sheet music for "Jesus Christ is Risen Today" …

…or you can use a larger screen, probably a computer to read the words on a YouTube video that our livestream worship team has recorded for you. Either way, you’re going to need to use this YouTube video, because that’s what you’re going to sing along with…

Once you’ve got the YouTube video loaded, I encourage you to plug headphones into that device. You can do this without, but it’ll help our sound quality a lot if you can listen to the video through headphones.

Once you’re ready to sing along, you’ll need your other device — probably a smartphone. You’re going to be recording a selfie video of yourself singing.

(If you know how to do it, it would help if you go to the Settings for your camera app — in the Settings app on the iPhone — and turn the quality down to 720p. If you don’t know what I’m talking about…it’ll be fine.)

Go to your camera app on your smartphone and make sure you’re in video mode. And make sure you are using the front camera (selfie mode.) In other words, make sure you can see your beautiful face staring back at you.

Cue up the YouTube video on the first device, hit record on the second, press play on the video, and sing along!

Once you’ve finished the song (there are 4 verses), make sure that it worked. Don’t worry if you don’t love the sound of your own voice; nobody does. When we put these together, along with the music, that’s when it’ll sound great.

Now you just need to follow this link on the device you just used to record the video and tap that little blue button that says, "Select files from your device." You want the option that says Photo Library, and then tap on the video you just made. It may take a while to upload the whole video, but give it a minute and then give thanks that it worked.

Here’s the thing: we need your video by WEDNESDAY THE 8th!!!

That will give us time to put it together.

Our musician and tech wizard Rick is going to put all these videos together to make a Time Travel Choir for Easter morning. I was going to say virtual choir, but this is the real thing…this is the church singing together about the empty tomb. We’ve done it before, and we’ll do it again. Peace and be safe.
