Welcome to Lent
In the church season of Lent, Christians around the world return to the call to discipleship: to hear the Word of God, pray, fast, and turn outward towards our neighbors as we look forward to the Three Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter.
The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday when ashes are marked in the sign of the cross on our foreheads to remind us of our mortality and our creator.
Lent is an invitation to return to faith practices. You might consider fasting: giving something up prayerfully. You might consider an intentional reading of scripture. For example, you could read through the Gospel of Luke which our Sundays are focusing on this year. To read through Luke in the 40 days of Lent with others, try our Luke in Lent page.
In Lent, Christians also pray. Each Wednesday in Lent at Good Shepherd, we’ll be gathering together at the church at 7 pm to sing and pray together using the Holden Evening Prayer service. Join us!
May your Lenten experience bring you with renewed eyes to our celebration of the resurrection at Easter!
